A superlative print marking the extraordinary bravery of the RAF in defending the vital strategic island and the stoic resistance and courage of its people – which inspired King George VI to award the island the George Medal – the highest civilian award available.
The print is from an original painting by John Young VPGAvA, VPASAA and shows a section of Spitfires from No. 249 Squadron climbing up over Valletta at the height of the Battle for Malta. 249 Squadron would end the war as the highest-scoring fighter squadron in the RAF.
